Certification
The Old West Newfoundland Club has been granted permission to hold these NCA Draft Tests by the Working Dog Committee of the Newfoundland Club of America.
The NCA Draft Test is a series of exercises designed to develop and demonstrate the natural abilities of purebred Newfoundland Dogs. The dogs must be willing to work with their handlers and the exercises must be accomplished efficiently. The goal of each handler is to maintain control while encouraging his dog’s natural independence; together, they demonstrate teamwork. The Newfoundland has historically functioned as a draft dog in various capacities, and the performance of these exercises is intended to demonstrate skills resulting both from natural ability and training that are applicable to realistic work situations.
For more information on all things Newfoundland, visit the Newfoundland Club of America website.
COVID-19
Please note that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent events beyond our control, this test is subject to cancellation. Guidelines for attending our test will be sent out closer to the time of the test, as we are monitoring state guidelines as they change. You will be required to sign a Covid-19 waiver if you are in attendance, entering, or stewarding.
An inherent risk of exposure to Covid-19 exists in any public place where people are present. Covid- 19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. By attending/entering this event, you assume all risks related to potential exposure to COVID-19.

Join the largest canine health study in the world and help dogs live longer, healthier lives!
Dogs of all ages are welcome at the Dog Aging Project, but we can learn the most from dogs who are enrolled as puppies. This is a longitudinal research study. That means we follow dogs through their entire lifetime, starting from as young an age as possible. Our goal is to identify factors that maximize healthy longevity and help future generations of dogs live the best lives possible.
Together we can:
- Understand how biology, lifestyle, and environment influence aging
- Intervene to increase health span, the period of life spent in good health
Join at-home research activities:
- Nominate your dog at dogagingproject.org
- Complete surveys about canine health, diet, behavior, and more
- Upload your dog’s electronic medical records
- Engage your dog in at-home behavioral assessments
- Help study the genetics and physiology of aging from your own home
- Connect with others in a private, online community of fellow dog lovers
The Dog Aging Project is a non-profit, academic research study funded by the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, and other partners. We don’t sell products or data. All of our canine participants live and play at home with their families.
